Norval Black is a three-star wide receiver from Lackawanna College. He originally hails from Germantown, Maryland, and has spent the last two seasons getting his academic house in order after admittedly focusing too much on sports during his high school days. Black closed out his JUCO career as an honorable mention All-American.

RLR's Take

Black led Lackawanna's national runner-up squad with 570 yards and seven touchdowns on just 22 receptions. He's becoming a more accomplished route runner and he also has a flair for the dramatic, hauling in multiple circus catches this year. He continues the recently established tradition of a Lackawanna pipeline to State College. Since James Franklin has arrived, he is one of five players who have exchanged their Falcon helmet for a Nittany Lion one. So far offensive tackle Paris Palmer and safety Jaquan Brisker have made the biggest impacts for Penn State. Black is hoping to add his name to that list.

Moving Forward

It could be a wide-open depth chart at receiver for Penn State. James Franklin is waiting on an NFL decision from KJ Hamler, and there is always a chance more players enter the portal. Black would seem to have as good a shot as any at some 2020 playing time. At the very least, he'll be a candidate for special teams. It's probably a 50-50 proposition that he takes a redshirt. Regardless of whether he plays in 2020, he will need to add some strength and size.
