During this afternoon's public unveiling for the Facilities Master Plan, Penn State Director of Athletics Sandy Barbour and Chief Operating Officer Phil Esten revealed some very early renderings and designs for a renovated Beaver Stadium, and they are awesome. Here are just a few early looks at what would essentially be a brand new facility.
According to Esten, the approximate capacity would be 103,000.
With such an involved renovation proposed, it was suggested by Esten that Penn State could take on the project on a schedule similar to Texas A&M's Kyle Field. That renovation took place over several off seasons as each side of the stadium was demolished and rebuilt over consecutive off seasons. That complexity, as well as a significant price tag, are two primary reasons that Beaver Stadium was not included in the initial five years of the overall plan.
