Let's face it, most kickers are not great athletes. They mostly just, well, kick. This is not meant to be a slight, but the important thing for kickers is that they possess a strong and accurate leg.

Jake Pinegar is not like most kickers. Well, he is in that he has a powerful right boot, but he doesn't look like a kicker. Standing at 6'2 and 195 pounds, Pinegar looks like the kind of guy who could play defensive back at the college level.

Pinegar has actually played a bit of defensive back in high school. He was so good that he earned an all-state nod back in 2016. On top of that, Pinegar holds a pair of his high school's records in track and field. Both involve being extremely good at jumping.

Franklin likes to recruit athletes all over the field and kicker is no exception. Since the staff lets their kickers fly down and try to make a play on kickoff coverage, having a guy with defensive experience will be huge for special teams.

Oh, and let's not forget the possibility for something like a trick play on special teams, which we know Franklin loved to run at Vanderbilt.

With his versatility, build, and raw athleticism, Pinegar may end up being the special team version of Tommy Stevens.
