Early Saturday morning James Franklin announced that Trace McSorley, Nick Scott, and Blake Gillikin will serve as team captains for the 2018 season. Franklin described the trio as "leaders for us in the locker room, on the field, and in the classroom."
Fifth-year seniors McSorley and Scott were captains a season ago, while junior Blake Gillikin is a first-timer.
McSorley threw for 3570 yards and 28 touchdowns last season, with a 66.5 completion percentage. He also added 491 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground. Those 39 total touchdowns are a school record.
Nick Scott has been the program's special teams ace for the past few years, but he's expecting to take over one of the safety spots in 2018. A former running back, it's pretty well known that Scott is the ultimate team player and willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win. He finished 2017 with 33 total tackles and one fumble returned for a touchdown.
Blake Gillikin is one of the nation's best punters. The Prince That Was Promised booted 52 balls at an average of 43.2 yards per punt. He's also expected to be Penn State's holder on field goals and extra points.
