Trace McSorley is the best quarterback in college football according to a recent ranking by The Sporting News. Preseason lists are fun for banter, but do they really mean anything? This is a where-there's-smoke-there's-fire situation with the Nittany Lion signal caller, as Athlon named McSorley the best QB in the Big Ten earlier this week.

James Franklin will amplify any and all buzz about his program and his best player.

Penn State's diminutive and brash leader deserves this attention. He's 22-5 as a starter. He's going to own every significant Penn State offensive record, or already does. And he's poised to put the final stamp on his career in Happy Valley as THE guy, now that Saquon Barkley, Mike Gesicki, and DaeSean Hamilton are gone.
