Despite splitting his spring between football offseason workouts and the baseball team, Mac Hippenhammer starred in this year's Blue-White game, boosting his stock as much as anybody after it was all said and done.
An Indiana native, Hippenhammer committed to Penn State in the summer of 2016, and despite a hard push by in-state powerhouse Notre Dame, stayed true to his word and arrived on campus nearly a year ago.

With a ton of talent in the wide receiver room, Hippenhammer redshirted last season, allowing him to add the kind of weight a Big Ten receiver needs to have. A fantastic baseball player, he was a utility player for Rob Cooper's squad during the spring.
Hippenhammer is the definition of a finesse player. He's not the strongest guy on the field, but he is one of the shiftiest. His athleticism and route-running ability are his greatest strengths, but he does have the speed to blow by a corner if he gets the opportunity.
With DaeSean Hamilton's Z spot up for grabs, Hippenhammer is in a pretty good spot heading into fall camp. As mentioned, he made a ton of plays in the Blue-White game, and he was playing another sport throughout most of the offseason. If Hippenhammer wants to see consistent reps, he'll have to beat out fellow redshirt freshmen KJ Hamler and Cam Sullivan-Brown, as well as the trio of incoming blue-chip recruits. He'll likely have an opportunity to contribute on special teams as a return man and a gunner.
