There were not a ton of shake ups, but Penn State did in fact play a football game so we are here to report on it.

Offense (48 plays)

Pos. First Team Second Team Third Team
QB Trace McSorley (33) Tommy Stevens (15)
RB Miles Sanders (37) Journey Brown (9) Tommy Stevens (2)
WR DeAndre Thompkins (41) Cam Sullivan-Brown (7)
WR Mac Hippenhammer (28) Brandon Polk (20)
WR K.J. Hamler (33) Jahan Dotson (15)
TE Pat Friermuth (41) Nick Bowers (6) Jon Holland (1)
LT Ryan Bates (48)
LG Steven Gonzalez (48)
C Michal Menet (48)
RG Connor McGovern (48)
RT Will Fries (41) Chasz Wright (7)
  • New Starter at Receiver: Mac Hippenhammer started at outside receiver, with Juwan Johnson injured and out and Brandon Polk moved to the second team. The rotations were very straightforward this week, with the subs consistently the same one-for-ones.
  • Fries Reclaims His Spot? Wright started at tackle, but Fries took over on the third drive and didn't look back. Both have struggled this season, but it's a good sign for Fries that the coaching staff was more comfortable with him against a tough front seven. Wright was thoroughly abused by Chase Winovich on the first drive of the game, which surely played a role in his return to the sideline.

Defense (70 plays)

Pos. First Team Second Team Third Team
DE Shareef Miller (49) Shaka Toney (15) Daniel Joseph (8)
DT Kevin Givens (53) P.J. Mustipher (12) C.J. Thorpe (6)
DT Robert Windsor (48) Antonio Shelton (22) Yetur Gross-Matos (1)
DE Yetur Gross-Matos (48) Shane Simmons (21)
WLB Koa Farmer (36) Micah Parsons (26) Jesse Luketa (3)
MLB Jan Johnson (46) Ellis Brooks (25)
SLB Cam Brown (47) Micah Parsons (14) Jarvis Miller (3)
CB John Reid (52) Donovan Johnson (10) Zech McPhearson (3)
S Nick Scott (62) Lamont Wade (7)
S Garrett Taylor (60) Jonathan Sutherland (9)
CB Amani Oruwariye (46) Tariq Castro-Fields (38)
  • Parsons Now Backing Up Both OLB Spots: Parsons saw more time with 40 total snaps, but it was not solely at the expense of the outmatched Farmer. He also spelled Brown at times, a role that in most games had been taken by Jarvis Miller.
  • Oruwariye Struggles, Briefly Benched: After getting burned for a Tarik Black touchdown that was ultimately called back for a penalty, Oruwariye was briefly taken off the field. With his reckless near-targeting miss in the second half already in the staff's mind, it was clear they recognized the senior was having trouble.
