The blowout we speculated could occur at Rutgers ended up occurring against Maryland at home on Senior Day.

  • Slade and Brown See Increased Time: The freshmen reserve running backs were more steady in the rotation in this one. Slade rewarded the decision by running confidently and effectively, and Brown was no slouch either.
  • Johnson Returns: The redshirt junior had missed most of the last four games with an injury. His appearance eliminated Cam Sullivan-Brown from the rotation. Brandon Polk remained benched, while Mac Hippenhammer did not play due to injury.
  • Scruggs Debuts: The true freshman guard/center played at left guard, his first action in a Penn State uniform. He has already confirmed redshirt status for this season and will be a redshirt freshman in 2019.
  • Shuman Sees Action in Final Game: The former walk-on got a few snaps at guard.
  • Shoop and Kuntz Responsible for Funny Penalty: The senior walk-on receiver and true freshman tight end both wear 82, and consequently committed a five-yard penalty when they both entered the game for Penn State's final offensive play from scrimmage. Kuntz had to exit to allow play to continue.
