After a decisive 38-3 victory over Maryland in their regular season finale, the Nittany Lions remained in place at No. 12 in the College Football Playoff rankings. Penn State will now await the results of the conference championship games, some of which will play a major role in deciding the team's ultimate bowl fate.

Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Ohio State moved up to No. 6 with the blowout win over Michigan, who fell to No. 7. Northwestern finishes the regular season at No. 21 with a chance to make a huge jump up should they pull off the upset in Indy over the Buckeyes.

As mentioned in our bowl prediction roundup, Michigan's loss to Ohio State put a major dent in Penn State's chances at a third consecutive NY6 bowl. Now, in order to make it back to that stage, it would take both Ohio State and Oklahoma winning their conference championships, and the Buckeyes taking the last playoff spot over the Sooners. But this is college football, and stranger things have happened before.
