Perhaps no player on the Penn State roster is receiving as much hype ahead of the 2019 season as sophomore linebacker Micah Parsons, and now that hype is being extended to the national level as CBS Sports has named him a preseason second-team All-American.
As a true freshman backup in 2018, Parsons led the Penn State defense in tackles with 82, while also racking up 1.5 sacks, 4.0 tackles for loss, and forcing two fumbles. Now he will be featured as a starter, and from the sound of it, one who will be lining up all over the field for Brent Pry's defense. Expectations are high for the former five-star prospect, but the talent is there, and 2019 should signal his arrival as one of the best linebackers in the country.
The Big Ten was well represented on both teams, with running back Jonathan Taylor (Wisconsin), receiver/special teamer Rondale Moore (Purdue), offensive linemen Tyler Biadasz (Wisconsin) and Ben Bredeson (Michigan), defensive end Chase Young (Ohio State), defensive tackle Kenny Willekes (Michigan State), and linebackers Paddy Fisher (Northwestern) and Joe Bachie (Michigan State) all being named to the first-team. Parsons is joined on the second-team by defensive end AJ Epenesa (Iowa). Future opponent Maurice Ffrench from Pitt also made the second-team as a kick returner.
