The Nittany Lions' special teams unit scored a big boost on Saturday when former Virginia Tech kicker/punter Jordan Stout announced he will transfer to Penn State.
Stout walked on at Virginia Tech ahead of the 2017 season, redshirting during his first year in Blacksburg. He was an absolute weapon for the Hokies on kickoffs in 2018, with 60 of his 71 kicks going for touchbacks. That 84.5% touchback percentage was good for fourth-best in the FBS. While he mainly handled kickoff duties, he did make all four of his extra point attempts but missed his lone field goal attempt.
Stout will compete with Rafael Checa to be the Nittany Lions' primary kickoff specialist and could take over punting duties for Blake Gillikin in 2020.
As a former walk-on receiving a scholarship, he will be eligible immediately and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
