Pat Narduzzi's defense already had its work cut out for it at defensive end with the expected loss of Dewayne Hendrix, who was second on the team in 2018 with 4.5 sacks. Now, the Panthers will have to deal with the unexpected loss of last year's sack leader, Rashad Weaver (6.5 sacks) for the season after he tore his ACL in practice on Tuesday.

Weaver, a former Penn State recruiting target, was expected to be a leader on the defensive side of the ball, and potentially an all-ACC level performer in 2019.

The Panthers travel to Happy Valley to take on the Nittany Lions on September 14. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. ET.
