Though there's still one more game to be played to cap off the 2019 season, that's not stopping college football fans from looking ahead to 2020. Bruce Feldman of Fox and The Athletic is one of those people already preparing for next season, and when asked for his early top-10 for next season, he included Penn State at No. 7.
Feldman didn't go into further detail on his placement of the Lions, but the rationale is fairly easy to construct. The Lions will be will lose some important pieces from the 2019 team, but return the majority of the starting lineup. Offensively, they will return nine players who started the final few games of the season, with the only departures being wide receiver KJ Hamler and left guard Steven Gonzalez (wide receiver Justin Shorter also remains in the transfer portal for now).
They lose a bit more defensively, as defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos, defensive tackle Robert Windsor, linebackers Jan Johnson and Cam Brown, cornerback John Reid, and safety Garrett Taylor are all gone, but Brent Pry has tons of talented youngsters with experience waiting to fill those roles. Oh, and Micah Parsons is back.
The only other Big Ten team in Feldman's top-10 was Ohio State at No. 2.
As the offseason continues on, Penn State is sure to be a mainstay on the tops of these early lists.
