Nittany Lion running backs Journey Brown and Noah Cain were named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List on Wednesday. The Walker is awarded each year to the nation's top runner. Both backs shined in 2019. After an ankle injury slowed down the promising Cain, Brown picked up a heavier workload and finished the season with a bang.

Brown averaged 6.9 yards per carry last season and put on a show in the Cotton Bowl against Memphis where he ran for a PSU bowl-record 202 yards and two touchdowns on just 16 carries. On the season, Brown ran for 890 yards and 13 touchdowns (12 rushing).

Cain emerged as a reliable runner as Penn State entered conference play last year. He rushed for 105 yards against Purdue for his fist 100-yard game. The following week against Iowa, Cain was a workhorse and finished the game with 22 carries and 102 yards. As Penn State looked to seal the game, they turned to the freshman back to pick up the game clinching first down.

Both players look to join Larry Johnson (2002) as the only Nittany Lion to ever take home the trophy.
