Penn State senior safety Lamont Wade was named to the Jim Thorpe Award Watch List on Monday. The senior safety is among 49 players named to the list for the award that recognizes the top defensive back in college football.
Wade was an honorable mention All-Big Ten player last season and made 13 starts for the Nittany Lions. In his breakout game against Ohio State, Wade tied a Big Ten record by forcing three fumbles. He also finished that game with ten tackles, which included 8 solo takedowns. Wade finished last season with 67 tackles and two sacks.
Wade will attempt to become the first Nittany Lion to ever win the award.
LSU's Grant Delpit won the award last season and no Big Ten player has won the award since Desmond King of Iowa did in 2015.
Wade is joined on the list by fellow Big Ten standouts Eric Burrell (Wisconsin), Ambry Thomas (Michigan), and Shaun Wade (Ohio State).
