Despite getting walloped on a hit just a few minutes earlier, quarterback Sean Clifford returned to the field to lead another Penn State scoring drive that culminated in a 28-yard run by No. 14 to get to the corner of the end zone.
The Nittany Lion offense has been inconsistent, but Clifford was able to find Parker Washington for a big gain on the drive between several strong runs from freshman Caziah Holmes. Then he called his own number on a well-designed keeper against a defense that looked like it was having trouble stopping the running game.
Clifford is 9-of-14 passing on the day for 99 yards, along with 2 rushes for 30 yards and the score. Penn State now leads Michigan 14-7 with the first half winding down. It hasn't been pretty, but the offense has at least shown some flashes of competency against a weakened Wolverine defense.
