A three-star prospect out of Las Vegas' Bishop Gorman high school, Bowens arrived at Penn State last summer as a rare west-coast prospect for the Nittany Lions. He didn't appear in any games last season, securing a redshirt in what was essentially a free year for all collegiate athletes.
The move comes roughly a week after James Franklin relieved offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kirk Ciarrocca of his duties and brought in Mike Yurcich to occupy both those roles.
The No. 16 dual-threat quarterback in the 2020 class, Bowens' departure leaves Penn State with four scholarship quarterbacks next season: Sean Clifford, Will Levis, TaQuan Roberson, and Christian Veilleux, who is set to enroll in a few months.
