Penn State and Auburn will meet under the lights in Beaver Stadium. A game more than five years in the making will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. in Happy Valley on ABC. The announcement was made on Tuesday morning by Penn State.
The September 18 game will mark the first time the two storied programs will meet in the regular season. The all-time series is even at 1-1, with both contests coming in bowl games. Penn State will return the favor in 2022 when the Nittany Lions travel to the plains of Alabama to face the Tigers in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Auburn's visit, the first by an SEC team to Beaver Stadium in 10 years (Alabama 2011) will be one of the marquis non-conference games of the season. With Covid restrictions beginning to ease in Pennsylvania, hopes are high that the game will also feature a full house, and potentially, a return of the White Out.
This will be Penn State's third game of the season, after opening in Madison vs. Wisconsin on September 4, and hosting Ball State one week later on September 11.
