Former Penn State defensive end Shane Simmons is transferring to Marshall for his sixth season of college football.

A former four-star prospect, Simmons' career has been plagued with injuries and he originally stated he would forgo his free season of eligibility. He changed his mind earlier this spring and entered the transfer portal soon after.

He finished his Penn State career with 59 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and four sacks. He was playing the best football of his career down the stretch this year and if he's able to carry that momentum into next season, he could be one of the best defenders in Conference USA.

The move reunites Simmons with former Penn State running backs coach Charles Huff - who also served as Simmons' primary recruiter coming out of high school.

The Thundering Herd open the 2021 season on September 4 against Navy.
