Penn State tight end Brenton Strange has been named to the John Mackey Award watch list, given annually to the nation's best tight end.
Strange took on a big role for the Nittany Lions last season while Pat Freiermuth missed time with an injury. The West Virginia native caught 17 balls for 164 yards and two touchdowns, all of which rank third among returning Penn State players.
The Nittany Lions have never had a player win the award. Florida tight end and Philadelphia native Kyle Pitts brought home the hardware last season.
