The Nittany Lions add to their 2023 recruiting class by picking up a commitment from three-star Pennsylvania tight end Joey Schlaffer. Schlaffer is the younger brother of former Penn State offensive lineman Michal Menet, who also played at Exeter Township in Reading.
Franklin and Co. have known Schaffer for the better of a decade thanks to their recruitment of his older brother.
The Schlaffer File
- Class: 2023
- Size: 6'6/205
- Pos: TE
- School: Exeter Township (Reading, PA)
- Composite Rating: ★★★
- Composite Rank: No. 22 tight end (No. 347 overall)
Schlaffer held offers from some of the biggest programs in the region, including Michigan State, Tennessee, and West Virginia. He picked up his Penn State offer while on campus for the Ball State game last month.
Listed at just 205 pounds, he has a lot of filling out to do but that 6'6 frame gives him a lot of space to grow into. The Nittany Lions have one tight end committed in their 2022 class, four-star Jerry Cross. Four-star tight end Mega Barnwell is already in Penn State's 2023 recruiting class, but he could play along the line at the next level.
Penn State's 2023 recruiting class now has four members and sits at No. 5 nationally.
What commitment number is he for the class? How does he fit in? Will he see playing time early or redshirt?
