Penn State will open 2022 by taking on a first-time opponent. The 7-5 Nittany Lions are headed to the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Florida to face the 8-4 and 21st-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks. The game will kick off at noon on New Year's Day on ESPN2.
The selection comes as a bit of a surprise, as Penn State leapfrogged a handful of Big Ten teams with 8-4 records, but the Nittany Lions will make their fifth appearance in the game and first since January 1st, 2011.
That contest ended in a 37-24 Florida victory in Urban Meyer's final game on the Gators' sideline. Penn State has a 3-1 record all-time in the Outback Bowl, with wins over Auburn, Kentucky and Tennessee.
