Penn State safety Ji'Ayir Brown will take advantage of the free year of eligibility from the COVID-19 pandemic and will return to the Nittany Lions in 2022.

Brown transferred in from Lackawanna College and played a reserve role for the Nittany Lions during the shortened 2020 season. He entered the starting lineup opposite forme Falcon Jaquan Brisker in 2021 and quickly established himself as a talented playmaker. He finished the season with 67 tackles, good for third on the team, and with a team-high four interceptions.

Brown's return means only one starting safety job will be open during the offseason, with Keaton Ellis and Jaylen Reed being the most likely targets to take control of the spot.
