New year, same Nittany Lions earning the No. 1 spot on SportsCenter’s Top-10 plays of the night.

In Penn State’s first series matchup back from winter break against its newly-constructed rival Minnesota, the Lions went into Minneapolis with tons of confidence, despite being down two of their best players.

This was the perfect storm for junior Brandon Biro to take over the game and bury a seemingly impossible goal while flailing down to the ice.

Biro collected the puck and cleanly entered Minny’s zone, pulled a sharp deke to his left, got tripped, and flung the puck on net hoping to just tack another shot on goal tally to his box score. Miraculously, the try turned into an absolute snipe with the momentum garnered from his fall, zipped past the Gophers’ netminder, and got featured at No. 1 on SportsCenter.

Penn State went on to win only its third time in program history on the big ice at Mariucci Arena 4-2 and extend its victory streak over Minnesota. The Nittany Lions have now won five-straight against the Golden Gophers and seven of the last eight dating back to the 2016-17 postseason.

Both teams are back in action tonight on BTN2GO. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. ET.
