Penn State dominated the Minnesota from the first minute of the first period Friday all the way to Guy Gadowsky's challenge in garbage time on Saturday, and it was glorious.
Liam Folkes, Nate Sucese, Alex Limoges, Cole Hults, Chase Berger, and Brandon Biro combined to hang an ice tuddy (that's seven goals ) on the Gopher's Friday night. More importantly, Minnesota was only able to put two past Peyton Jones and the Penn State defense.
Check out the highlights from Friday night as Penn State dropped Minnesota, 7-2!! The Nittany Lions have now won 5-Straight against the Gophers on home ice and 8-of-10 overall dating back to the 2017 Big Ten Tournament semifinals!! #WeAre #HockeyValley pic.twitter.com/vZ4dg0ZwBb— Penn State Mens Hockey (@PennStateMHKY) February 9, 2019
The same cast of characters drove the offense on Saturday with Sucese, Limoges, Biro, and Berger all scoring again on Saturday. Nikita Pavlychev also added his 12th goal of the season. Once again, Minnesota was only able to score two goals and was never truly a threat after the first period.
Minnesota's defense had struggled since the start of the new year, and Penn State was able to expose them in absolutely every sense of the word. I'm sure if the Gopher's were still playing in their old conference, the defense would be significantly better. But then again, I've been wrong before.
The absolute best part of the weekend was Guy Gadowsky rubbing copious amounts of salt in the wound by challenging a Minnesota goal with just over three minutes to go in Saturday's game. The play was offsides, and the call of no goal gave us the beautiful moment of Bob Motzko staring into the deep dark depths of the universe. In case you were wondering, Bob's contract is just shy of $3 million.
