Guess what? Hockey season is nearly here! After an up-and-down 2018-2019 campaign, the Nittany Lions will open the new season as the No. 13-ranked team in the country.

The 2018-2019 season was an emotional roller coaster for the Penn State, as it struggled with consistency. The Lions figured things out by the time the Big Ten Tournament rolled around and made it all the way to the title game against defending conference champion Notre Dame, but fell 3-2 to the Irish. Thanks to the previously mentioned inconsistency, the Lions didn't do enough to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

But now, a new season is upon us. A lot is expected from this talented roster with a ton of returning stars. Evan Barrett, Alex Limoges, Denis Smirnov, Liam Folkes, and company are all back for what was the nation's best offense just a season ago. If the defense can take a step forward and the duo of Peyton Jones and Oskar Autio can provide a steady presence in net, this could be Guy Gadowsky's best team yet.

Penn State will play an exhibition game against the University of Ottawa on Sunday, Oct. 6 before opening the regular season by welcoming Sacred Heart to the Peg on Friday, Oct. 11 and Saturday, Oct. 12.
