Penn State defenseman Cole Hults (2) controls the puck during the game against No. 13 Princeton at Pegula Ice Arena on Friday, Oct. 26, 2018.

They may have ended up 13th, behind both Notre Dame (No. 9) and Ohio State (No.12) when the first USCHO Poll was released earlier today, but the Nittany Lions garnered a much more favorable position among the people who matter most. On Monday, it was announced that Penn State is ranked by the coaches as the No. 1 team in the Big Ten.

Penn State returns a whopping 82% of its offensive production from a season ago, and said offense is expected to lead the team back to the Big Ten Championship and a return trip to the NCAA Tournament berth in the spring.

Penn State is set to open the regular season against Sacred Heart in Pegula Ice Arena on Friday, October 11.
