After an up-and-down start to the season, the Penn State Men's Hockey team has stabilized a bit after a win over Michigan and a two-game sweep of Arizona State. Now sitting at 3-5 (1-5), the Lions will have a chance to make some headway in the Big Ten standings while working through the rest of their regular-season schedule.

Penn State Hockey Remaining Schedule
Dates Opponent Opponent Record (Big Ten Record)
1/3-4 at Michigan State 2-3-1 (1-3-0)
1/8-9 at Ohio State 3-5-1 (3-5-0)
1/15-16 VS. MICHIGAN STATE 2-3-1 (1-3-0)
1/21-22 VS. WISCONSIN 5-5-0 (5-3-0)
1/28-29 VS. NOTRE DAME 4-4-0 (3-3-0)
2/3-4 at Michigan 5-5-0 (3-5-0)
2/12-13 VS. OHIO STATE 3-5-1 (3-5-0)
2/20-21 VS. ARIZONA STATE 3-6-1
2/26-27 VS. MINNESOTA 8-0-0 (8-0-0)
3/5-6 at Notre Dame 4-4-0 (3-3-0)

All things considered, it's a rather soft landing for Penn State out of the break. Two quick series against Michigan State should be a good chance to make up ground in the conference, given the extreme difficulties the Spartans have had putting pucks in the net in 2020. Their defense remains strong, but the Lions should be able to outscore them.

Penn State also gets the benefit of a pair of long homestands, getting three opponents in succession in Hockey Valley at two different points over the rest of the schedule. The team will also not have to be on the road for more than two series at a time.

The other big positive here is not having to face Minnesota again until the penultimate series of the regular season. The Gophers are playing extremely well right now, and this young Penn State team needs as much time to continue to gel as it can get before round two with the No. 1 team in the country (according to the USCHO Poll).

As things currently stand, Guy Gadowksy's team is sitting at 6th in the conference, but a couple of wins will immediately vault them back into the conversation for a favorable playoff seed.
