We have a new batch of recruit rankings over on 247Sports, and while there is a ton of relevant information to Penn Staters, the biggest news is the continued rise of Justin Fields.
Per his newest ranking, Fields – who committed to Penn State when he was a four-star prospect and the No. 183 recruit in America – is the No. 5 recruit in the country. Fields is the top dual-threat quarterback prospect in the nation and the second-best recruit out of Georgia, behind only Clemson QB commit Trevor Lawrence.
Also of note in the top-10 are the big rise of K.J. Henry and the slight fall of Micah Parsons. Both defensive end prospects are uncommitted and are high on Penn State in one way or another – Henry jumped 34 spots and is now the No. 6 recruit in America, while Parsons fell two spots to No. 8.
As for some other notes in the top-247:
- Fresh off of dominating The Opening regional camp in New Jersey, Justin Shorter has exploded. He rose 119 spots to No. 36 nationally. Right behind him is Zach Kuntz, who rose one spot to No. 37.
- Ricky Slade fell two spots and is now the No. 69 recruit in the country. There is a four-letter word that begins with "n" and rhymes with "rice" that I would put in here but I am tired. Nana Asiedu also fell two spots and now sits at No. 73 overall. Fields, Shorter, Kuntz, Slade, and Asiedu make up the current Penn State commits in the top-100.
- A number of other Nittany Lion targets are in the top-247. We'll have more on them tomorrow.
