Penn State wrestling star Bo Nickal added a final award to the resume of his distinguished career as he was named the 2019 Big Ten Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year. Nickal took home the 2019 Hodge Trophy which is college wrestling equivalent to the Heisman Trophy and was named 2019 Co-Big Ten Wrestler of the Year along with teammate Jason Nolf.

Nickal took home his third National Championship after defeating Ohio State's Kollin Moore in the 197-pound championship match. Nickal finished his career at Penn State 120-3 with an astounding 19-1 record in the NCAA Tournament.

Nickal becomes ninth Nittany Lion to be named Big Ten athlete of the year, just the third Penn State male to win the Owens Award, and the first since 2014 when former wrestler David Taylor earned the honor. Iowa basketball standout Megan Gustafson was named the 2019 Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year.
