The December 22nd card for the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club is shaping up to be arguably the best one the club has put on yet. On Tuesday evening, the NLWC announced that 2018 World Championship finalist and current World No. 2 Bajrang Punia (India) will take on Penn State great, Zain Retherford.
This match is shaping up to be an epic encounter. Punia and Retherford both wrestle at a torrid pace and wrestled each other earlier this year at the Matteo Pellicone. Punia defeated Retherford 5-4 and went on to win the tournament while Retherford picked up a bronze.
Retherford is going to be capable of winning the rematch given how well these two match up. In January, Retherford had the lead on criteria 3-3 in the final 30 seconds, but his aggressive instincts took over after stuffing a Punia double leg. When Retherford went on the attack, Punia was able to get a two-point exposure before giving up a one-point reversal to win 5-4 as the seconds ticked down.
The rematch should be just as exciting as the last encounter, and it will be broadcasted live on Rokfin on December 22nd.
The other matches announced for the December 22nd card are:
- Roman Bravo-Young vs. Aljamain Sterling
- Jane Valencia vs. Xochitl Mota-Pettis
