Berge has had a rough spell of injuries during his time at Penn State. While representing Team USA at the 2019 U23 World Championships, he suffered a concussion that kept him out of action for nearly the entire 2019-20 season. At the 2021 NCAA Tournament, Berge suffered a knee injury in the quarterfinals that forced him to withdraw from the tournament.
He was a three-time All-Academic Big Ten honoree. Berge competed at 149 and 157 pounds for Cael Sanderson, ultimately finishing with a 31-9 record in his college career.
