That quote from Smith makes you think he was doing fine on the field. For what it's worth, he did post a pic of his empty locker on his Instagram story that said: "This wasn't my decision". That leads me to believe it's an outside factor that's driving him to make this decision.
It does seem weird for Wade but McPhearson makes sense. Donovan Johnson seemingly supplanted him this season and the staff loves Trent Gordon.
I have to imagine a lot of schools are going through something similar. Maybe the new transfer portal just makes the transfer process a lot more public.
I agree that the younger linebackers have a higher ceiling, but Franklin's been fiercely loyal to his older guys so far so there's no reason to believe they'd be replaced. Johnson may be a bit slow but he more than held his own this season IMO. He was second on the team with 72 tackles so it's hard to imagine them going to a more inexperienced guy. Regardless, it's a great problem to have and I'm excited to see how the battles all shake out.
Oh for sure but when people outside of Penn State think of dominating defenses more often than not it's teams like Michigan, Alabama, and Clemson. I don't know if they'll reach that level, but they'll start to be looked at in the same light.
I can't imagine they'd pull him. He was 11-13 from inside 40 and was great on extra points. If he can hit more consistently from 40+ he'd be a pretty big weapon.
I get their All-American team didn't have a tight end but come on. This feels like a snub for Freiermuth.
I see some guys put up two fingers. You've got to wonder if Franklin is losing control of the team.
Gellerstedt appearing in only one game this season makes me think he's fallen behind a bit. Walker earned a ton of praise for his work on the scout team and played pretty well in his four games. I think Whigan getting to campus early will go a long way into his development. His highlight tape is also unreal. As for Holmes, I think he slides outside because of Ryan Bates' early declaration and CJ Thorpe is expected to move back over to the offense and compete for minutes along the interior. It should be a fun race to keep an eye on!
